Cross-Border mobility: the need to unite flexibility with social security

With changes in rules, regulations and legislation, barriers to mobility are being dismantled across Europe. This is particularly relevant in the case of the island of Ireland which is now seeing an increase in mobility between the two jurisdictions.

The two governments must be creative in finding ways to remove financial disincentives and facilitate the cross-border economy by introducing legislation and associated systems that work flexibly for workers, their families and employers.

The speakers and research presented at the seminar will highlight the issues and put forward the case for greater co-ordination in the benefit system that addresses the interests of people crossing the border to work, live, retire and study, and for the infrastructure which best meets their cross-jurisdictional advice and information needs.

The Borderwise 'Going North Going South' Seminar will take place on Friday, the 8th of August 2008 in the Carrickdale Hotel, Dundalk, County Louth.  The Chief Executive of the SEUPB, Pat Colgan, will deliver the key note speech.
